THE cause of a blaze which caused major damage to a wood pulping works in Horwichon Monday night is being investigated.
A wood pulping machine at Armstrongs Environmental Services off Chorley New Road was destroyed. Forty foot flames shot in to the air and set the roof of the building alight.
The company, which is based at the former loco works, specialises in reclaiming wood and converting it into chippings.
It is thought that the blaze, which raged for half an hour before 15 firemen managed to bring it under control, may have been started accidentally when an electrical fault or a spark setfire to wood pulp.
