TWO local junior sides will compete in the National Inter-Club finals this weekend.

Hart Common and Chorley Golf Club successfully came through the regional final last weekend and now take on England's best at the Brocket Hall course in Hertfordshire.

The Hart Common team of Catherine Roberts, Richard Shiels, Andrew Isherwood, Tim Atherton, Tom Baston and John Halstead, came out on top in the regional competition, with Chorley in second place.

That event should have been staged at Mere Golf Club but because of bad weather, the clubs had to play on their own courses with independent observers.

Hart Common, who qualified as title winners of the Brunswick League, won with a best gross score of five under, while the best nett scores from the remaining five players also counted.

Catherine Roberts is one of the few women in the competition, but the Lancashire county player has more than held her own in the matches so far.

Chorley qualified after becoming the Bolton Golf Association junior champions and their team is made up of Michael Hearn, Joseph Morris, Andrew Palmer, Joe Heald, Nick Jackson and Joe Turner.

The two sides will represent the North-west region in the Daily Telegraph-sponsored event, and will play the course on Sunday, before the competition is played on Monday.

And should either of the teams come out on top, they will fly out to La Manga in December to represent England in the European Championships.
