A SPECIALIST laser skin clinic will be built in hospital grounds -- despite opposition from local residents.

Plans to build a single storey Laserase clinic at the Royal Bolton Hospital site, off Minerva Road, Farnworth, have been given the green light by Bolton Council's planning committee.

Councillors approved the plans despite seven letters of objection saying there would be more traffic, residents would lose their privacy and crime would increase.

The private clinic, which treats some NHS patients, is currently inside the hospital. Moving it will free up vital space in the orthopaedic outpatients department.

It uses laser equipment to treat conditions such as severe acne, but can also be used for fine lines and wrinkles.

Cllr Andy Morgan said the move would free up vital space in the hospital and will provide a much-needed revenue stream.

The clinic has had a 95 per cent success rate in using lasers to treat skin conditions since it opened last year.

Bolton is one of just a handful of places in England to have the specialist machine.

A session costs from £50 to £300 and the laser light destroys the bacteria that create acne.
