THROUGHOUT 2004 the Old Rivingtonians Association (believed to be one of the oldest former pupils' organisations in the country) has been celebrating its Centenary Year. We would like to place on record our thanks to the Bolton Evening News for the tremendous coverage given to our activities over the past few months.
Without doubt, this publicity has helped greatly to "spread the word" and helped ensure that the culmination of our milestone year -- our gala re-union dinner and centenary reunion service, both held last weekend -- were both such huge successes.
Old Rivingtonians from far and wide (including quite a few who travelled internationally) converged on Bolton, Horwich and Rivington for a truly memorable weekend. The success culminated in a dedication to the beautiful memory of former headmaster Alan Jenner.
Association president Katherine Grundy and all members of the Centenary Committee would like to thank John Baumber, executive principal of Rivington and Blackrod High School, and his staff for their tremendous help and support, and also to everyone who contributed in any way to the wonderful success of our centenary year.
A special word of thanks must go to all those Old Rivingtonians who responded in such large and enthusiastic numbers to our centenary events.
With very best regards.
David Kaye
On behalf of the Committee of the Old Rivingtonians' Association
