THE timetable for Bolton Arena's free fitness weekend has been announced.

The Middlebrook leisure centre has joined forces with the Bolton Evening News Fit For Life campaign to launch the three-day event to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle to people living in Bolton.

And the varied and action-packed timetable will offer opportunities for people to try new sports and activities as well as attend workshops focusing on more specific aspects of healthy living.

The event runs on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, October 23, 24 and 25, with a choice of at least three activities and workshops available between 10am and 4pm each day.

Sue Jones, the Arena's programme and education manager, said: "We wanted to do something to to tackle the growing problems with obesity.

"The idea of this event is to inspire, educate and illustrate how to begin and maintain an active lifestyle.

"We hope to encourage people to try something new and to learn that exercise doesn't have to be about joining a gym."

Activities will include everything from straightforward exercise such as walking and cycling to more inspirational activities such as spinning and pilates.

Workshops aimed at educating people on all aspects of a healthy lifestyle will include subjects such as giving up smoking, nutrition and relaxation techniques like yoga and Indian head massage.

Timetables are set to be distributed around local doctor's surgeries and health centres this week.

Details of how to secure places on the various workshops will be printed in the Bolton Evening News before the event, but people can also sign up for activities on the day.
