POLICE are investigating an incident in which the window of a bus was smashed as it was taking children home from school last night.

The bus was attacked as it stopped on the A58 Bury New Road, near to the junction with Radcliffe Moor Road.

The Blue Bus was carrying pupils from Little Lever High School.

Nearby residents said children then got off the bus by climbing through windows and by using the emergency exit.

Bernard Tucker, aged 70, who lives on Bury New Road, saw the incident.

He said: "There was a lot of banging on the windows, one of which was smashed. It was lucky that no one was killed when they ran into the road."

Andrew Jarvis, Commerical Manager for Blue Bus, said: "We are trying to find out a bit more about what has happened. The driver will be interviewed the police have been informed.

"We had to find another bus to carry on that journey because it does not just do school runs."

A spokesman at Little Lever High School said he was aware of the incident but refused to comment.
