BOLTON'S Bank Top Brewery is getting ahead of the competition with more awards to add to its growing tally of achievements.
In the last few weeks, beers brewed by the Ashworth Lane brewery have been named the best at beer festivals in Southport and Solihull.
At Southport, a pale bitter named Gold Digger won the award while at Solihull Beer Festival, a new novelty dark beer mixed with ruby port called Port O' Call, took top honours. Demand for the 14 beers currently brewed by owner John Feeney, who set up the business nine years ago, is so strong that he is now producing 2,000 gallons a week.
It is drunk by beer enthusiasts around the country and has even been enjoyed by drinkers at beer festivals in Boston, USA.
Anyone wanting to sample the full range of the brewery's produce can do so at the Bolton Beer Festival, which runs until Sunday at the Howcroft pub in Pool Street, Bolton.
