A BENCH and plaque will be unveiled next week to mark the completion of a project to improve the setting of the 17th century stocks in Ringley.
The work was carried out by Stoneclough Women's Institute and villagers as part of the WI's Millennium Project.
Thwaites Brewery has paid for new railings, Bolton Council has installed cobbles and Canal Conservation Volunteers have dug out the ground area inside and beneath the railings.
John Kirby, from the local pub, The Horseshoe, paid for the gravel and a plaque, which tells about the original wooden bridge built in 1677, was provided by Heritage Conservation. Members from the WI and villagers will be at the ceremony on Tuesday at 12.15pm.
