THE Recorder of Bolton used to be an important man in the town.
In the days before the advent of Crown Courts, the Quarter Sessions were held in the magistrates' court to hear more serious cases. In this photograph from June, 1946, the new Recorder, Mr R. Moelwyn Hughes KC, is pictured being welcomed by the Mayor, Ald Demaine, on the opening day of the Quarter Sessions. The Town Clerk, Mr P. S. Rennison, is on the right.
