ONE of the teachers, Miss Agnes Ball, received a special Papal medal in June, 1981 for her service to Mount St Joseph Roman Catholic School.
Miss Ball, centre, was retiring from the Hawthorne Road school after 38 years as a teacher. Earlier in her life she spent seven years there as a pupil. The medal was presented by Father Doran, the chaplain to the school convent.
Meanwhile, gaining the national cycling proficiency certificate and badge was an important achievement in September, 1977 at St Cuthbert's RC School, Bolton. WPC Lynn Scott is pictured, below, making the presentations to Denise Harrison, aged 11, of Cedar Street, Bolton. PC Dick Rothwell, who conducted this course and others in the town, is pictured at the back.
