AS a local businessman I try my best to support the environment and conserve energy, but the cost is becoming unbearable.
Bolton Council used to provide a glass collection service as part of the normal business collection service, but in 2003 they sub-contracted this service to a private company because the existing system was becoming difficult to maintain. No charge was to be incurred.
This year the private contractor sent out a letter stating this collection would now cost £190 per year. Not much, you might think -- but this comes on top of £9,348 business rates, £772 council tax, £424 water rates and £772 for my normal refuse collection. What happened to the £480,000 European grant subsidy?
How many more indirect costs are to be placed on local businesses? Where is the incentive?!
