Peter Kay's latest DVD has become the fastest seller of the year.

That Peter Kay Thing sold 130,000 copies in just two days.

And in its first week, more than 150,000 have flown off the shelves.

It eclipses sales of the second series of Phoenix Nights on DVD, which sold more than 60,000 in two days.

The Bolton comic said: "I just cannot believe it. It's mad enough that the series has been released on DVD anyway -- it's more than five years old -- but to have sold so many copies in such a short space of time is amazing."

In the show, Peter, aged 31, plays different characters in a series of spoof documentaries.

He assembled and edited all the extra material for the DVD almost a year ago, after completing his record-breaking Mum Wants A Bungalow stand-up comedy tour.

That Peter Kay Thing is now being tipped to be the year's biggest seller as fans rush to snap up copies ahead of Christmas. Its success comes exactly a year after the success of the DVD release of the second series of Phoenix Nights. That became the fastest seller of 2003.

Peter is soon to return to our screens in the Phoenix Nights spin-off Road to Nowhere, which stars him and best pal Paddy McGuinness.

They play doormen Max and Paddy and the new Channel 4 series follows their adventures around the country in a motorhome.
