SMALL businesses and contractors in Bolton are being targeted as part of a campaign to reduce accidents with ladders.
Latest figures show that falls from ladders and stepladders account for an average of 12 deaths and over 1,000 major injuries every year in the UK.
Bolton Council has joined other Greater Manchester authorities as part of European Health and Safety Week, starting on October 18.
Environmental bosses are targeting the construction trade, with the support of the Health and Safety Executive, to offer valuable advice.
Hundreds of businesses will receive leaflets promoting new guidance and Work at Height Regulations, that covers all aspects of ladder safety.
Barry Whitehead, Greater Manchester Health & Safety Group chairman, said: "All too often, ladder safety is taken for granted and that's when accidents happen.
"Our message is that by taking simple precautions, accidents with ladders can be avoided."
