MARK Hughes has added his voice to the growing lobby of support for Gary Speed to succeed him as Wales manager.

Hughes steps down after Wednesday night's World Cup qualifier against Poland in Cardiff.

Sam Allardyce has suggested Speed should concentrate on playing rather than being tempted to take a post with the national side but Hughes believes he could combine the two.

"Whether Gary would be in a position to take the job I don't know, but he has the qualities to be a good manager," he said. "If he took it, he would be in a similar situation to me when I started, in that he is still playing for Bolton and I was still playing at Blackburn."
