THIS picture of the "Hough Fold Estate" at Harwood was used in the Bolton Evening News in November, 1965, to illustrate a story about a big increase in cash grants to local authorities.
Mr Richard Crossman, the Housing Minister, announced a plan which was the first instalment of Labour's proposals for achieving half a million houses a year by 1970.
It was calculated at the time that at least four million houses were needed to replace Britain's slums and end shortages.
The picture was taken in Hough Fold Way and shows Patterdale Road when it was less leafy than it is now.
