WANDERERS boss Sam Allardyce is preparing a golden homecoming for Bolton fan Amir Khan.

The 17-year Olympic boxing sensation will be invited to soak up the cheers of a capacity Reebok crowd at the Premiership derby clash with Manchester United on September 11 and show off his gold or silver medal.

Classy Khan unleashed his power and superb technique with a stunning 40-26 points victory over Serik Yeleuov of Kazakhstan in Friday's lightweight semi-final and goes for gold against Cuba's 33-year-old two-time Olympic champion Mario Kindelan in Sunday's final at 12.40pm.

The Bolton College student from Heaton secured at least silver with his fourth magnificent performance of the Games and is now one fight away from becoming the youngest Olympic boxing champion since Floyd Patterson 52 years ago.

Allardyce would certainly love Khan to take the prized medal, and after twice meeting the teenager in the past, he is planning to make it a hat-trick next month.

"He had a Bolton shirt off us last year, and I remember having a picture taken with him a few years ago," recalled Allardyce.

"I now hope I can welcome him back to Bolton and give him an invite to come to the Reebok Stadium for our game against Manchester United.

"He can get on that pitch and hopefully wave his gold medal about. We will keep our fingers crossed, but so far he has done magnificently.

"He has been so impressive, not just in the ring, but out of it as well with the way he has conducted himself in his interviews.

"Handling the media is not easy, particularly if you have never handled it before, but he seems to take it naturally. He has not got carried away."

"Hopefully, he will continue to be a major success and go on to have a career in professional boxing beyond this."
