A-LEVEL students at Bolton Sixth Form College not only had their nerves to contend with on Thursday morning, they had the added pressure of opening their results live on Radio One.

Presenter Vernon Kay was in his home town at the college's North Campus in Smithills Dean Road, where students Dhanshuk Vekaria and Catherine Smith were among those waiting anxiously to find out if they had got the grades to get into Oxford and Cambridge.

Vernon remembers picking up his A-level results 12 years ago. "I was more nervous for my mum because I think I knew I hadn't done too well," he said.

"I think if you pass, then brilliant, but if not there are so many courses out there for people with lesser grades than expected, so don't worry, you will be fine."
