DARREN Kay scored a sparkling victory over eight miles at Littleborough when he made a late entry onto the fell running scene for Horwich Harriers, scoring a photo finish win over clubmate Brendan Bolland after a 2000 feet climb.
Kay, a top cyclist and road-runner, had just one second to spare over Bolland at the finish, clocking 67mins 8secs for the gruelling course.
With clubmates Kevin Gaskell and Glynn Kay in seventh and 18th place, Horwich also scored a clear-cut victory in the team race, beating local rivals Clayton-le-Moors into second place.
There was also a first place for Don Ashton of Darwen Dasher who won the over 60s veterans category.
