HEALTH chiefs have unveiled plans for a multi-million pound new base for Greater Manchester Ambulance Service.
A combined control centre will be opened in Ardwick, Manchester.
All control room staff from across Greater Manchester, including Bolton, Highfield and Whitefield, will move to the new site. No job losses are expected.
Some of the current buildings, spread across 500 square miles, date back to the 1940s and the project is hoped to be finished by autumn 2006.
The ambulance service was recently awarded three-star status and recognised as one the best services in the country.
The cost of the project will be between £5million and £6million and will be paid for by the Manchester, Salford and Trafford Local Improvement Finance Trust, a public private partnership scheme.
