A LIFEBOAT fundraiser from Bolton has been recognised for his services with an MBE.
Brian Thompson, who has lived in Bolton for 45 years, received the MBE from Prince Charles last month at a service at Buckingham Palace.
Originally from Whitefield, Mr Thompson became involved with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution in 1970 as a voluntary member of the local fundraising committee and became treasurer in 1977, a position which he still holds.
As well as working in the Bolton area, he is also involved in various events in the North-west which covers an area from Staffordshire to Cumbria.
Mr Thompson said: " I enjoy working for the RNLI. We receive wonderful support from the people of Bolton and frequently meet people whose lives have been affected by the work of the RNLI.
"My family and I had a marvellous day at the award ceremony and I take this as a reward not just for myself but also recognition for the outstanding bravery of the crew members and the generosity of local people."
