A MAN was killed after a two cars collided near the Reebok Stadium.
The 54-year-old driver, from Blackburn, was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital but died later from his injuries.
He had been driving a 52-reg Vauxhall Corsa on De Havilland Way near the roundabout of Junction 6 of the M61.
The car crossed the central reservation and collided with a 53-reg Mitshubishi Shogun travelling in the opposite direction.
Firefighters from Horwich were called to the scene and used cutting equipment to free the driver of the Corsa from the wreckage. The 29-year-old Mitsubishi driver from Bickerstaff was taken to hospital after breaking his leg.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision and would ask anyone to contact them on 0161 856 7202.
