FURTHER to the article with regards a smoking ban (Bolton Evening News, July 29), I feel that I must elaborate further the Conservative group's views.

The Conservatives fully support a smoking ban in all public buildings, offices and restaurants and also feel that there should be designated areas within pubs for smokers so those that don't smoke can enjoy their evening out without suffering from passive smoking.

The comment used in isolation in the article was correct in so much as we do not believe that a total ban in outside public areas would be enforceable.

Who would enforce this proposed ban? We are still struggling to deal with anti-social behaviour related to alcohol abuse and drugs let alone our continued battle with fly-tipping and littering.

Apart from banning smoking in the areas I have listed, the Government and this council along with its health partners should also look at identifying more resources to help people quit smoking not vilifying them.
