A WARNING has been issued about fraudulent emails that could cost people in the Bolton area a lot of money.

They claim to be from high street banks and request information about the recipient's on-line bank account so it can be "verified".

Jim Potts, Lancashire County Council's Chief Trading Standards Officer, said: "They are being sent to a wide range of internet users in the hope that unsuspecting customers will forward their account access details. Then fraudulent withdrawals will be made.

"If you receive any such email, do not access any of the links in it or provide any banking details.

"Anyone who is concerned that they have received this email and may have divulged details, or suspect the security of their account has been compromised, should contact their bank immediately."

Lancashire Trading Standards can be contacted on 0845 600 1352, or email tsd@ts.lancscc.
