I CANNOT believe what is happening on the transfer front at my beloved Bolton Wanderers.

First of all, we ditch Per Frandsen for being too old. Then we don't give Youri the contract he wants -- and probably deserves -- because he also is too old.

But what happens then?

We re-sign a 40-something, Kevin Poole; sign a well past his sell-by date Les Ferdinand; are linked with a 37-year-old Hierro and now have signed Gary Speed.

Who next?

Perhaps we could prize the still-sprightly Teddy Sheringham, who has gone from portsmouth to West Ham, and I'm surprised we allowed Leicester to beat us to the signing of Martin Keown, who could have joined us for a couple of years while he waits for his old age pension?

Maybe even Big Sam and Reidy could put their boots on again for old times sake and save us the expense of buying anyone good, or with reasonable promise.

Perhaps the real reason we don't now want Rivaldo is that he's a mere slip of a lad at 32.
