BOLTON'S nightlife has received a boost with the opening of several new venues.

Popular 1970s theme bar Tiger Feet in Bradshawgate has undergone a full-scale revamp and has become Bar:Me, which held its opening earlier this month.

Work is also due to start on a £1 million revamp of The Pack Horse Hotel to create a luxury bar and dining area in the shape of contemporary venue JJ Bar and Grill on Nelson Square.

Bosses at the hotel hope that the new venue will attract clientele who usually choose to travel into Manchester, as well as improving the current three-star rating of the hotel.

The former Revolution and St Trinian's bar on Bradshawgate has been transformed into Chinese restaurant Buffet King.

Meanwhile, the Cottons pub and Corks winebar on Bradshawgate have been put up for sale, in addition to a long list of other pubs and bars which have been put on the market.

A spokesperson for the Bolton-based Knightsbridge Group, conducting the sale of Corks said that the property was currently under offer, and may be "sold as a going concern."

A spokesperson for Manchester-based Kings Business Transfer, selling the Cottons building, said it too would remain as a pub or bar and an offer was currently being considered.

Earlier this year it was announced that The Brasshouse, on Churchgate and Nelson Square's Red on the Square would also be put up for sale, but both bars remain open.

The Swan Hotel on Bradshawgate, has also been empty for a number of months, and is yet to find a new occupant.

Landlords at town centre establishments say the rise in the number of bars is to blame. They say there are now too many players competing for the same amount of business that existed before the bar boom.

Outside Bolton town centre, the Gilnow Arms and the Pilkington Arms, both on Deane Road, have also closed.
