A TRIO of opera singers who model themselves on the three tenors will be appearing at Bolton Parish Church this weekend in a fundraising concert for charity.

Tenori will perform with Bolton based amateur choir group the Brixi Singers on Saturday and aim to raise the roof with their rendition of Pavorotti's Nessun Dorma.

The three singers, John Marsden, John Christodoulou, both from Leigh, and Alexander Grove from Didsbury, are taking part in a North-west tour in aid of Cancer Research UK.

They hope to raise at least £10,000 for their efforts, and are urging opera fans to flock to the concert, which will feature famous songs, musical numbers and Tom Jones hits.

Mr Christodoulou, aged 28, said they decided to raise cash for Cancer Research because they had all lost family members to the killer disease.

He said: "It's a cause that is dear to our hearts. Cancer has affected all of our lives in some way. Alex and I lost our fathers and John Marsden lost a family member, all to cancer.

"This is our first fundraising tour and we are hoping that as many people as possible will come to the concert."

Tenori have a growing reputation in the opera world and have performed individually with English National Opera, Covent Garden, Opera North and appeared at Manchester's Bridgewater Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, London Royal Festival Hall and the Albert Hall.

The show starts at 7.30, and tickets cost £8 for adults and £6 for concessions.
