MIDLAND Mainline has announced plans for a new Manchester to London rail service which is due to start on Sunday, May 18, for 12 months.
It is an alternative service for passengers wanting to travel between Manchester, Stockport and London during the West Coast Main Line route modernisation programme.
Journey times between Manchester Piccadilly and London St Pancras will be around 3hrs 19min. The alternative route to London will pass through the Hope Valley and on to the Midland Main Line, stopping at Stockport, Leicester, Market Harborough, Kettering, Wellingborough and Luton.
There will be nine services per day in each direction from May 18 and then 15 a day from June 30.
Midland Mainline, which is part of the National Express Group, says the new service includes a dedicated fleet of 10 additional high speed trains and 206 new employees.
