MANCHESTER United has stepped up security checks at Old Trafford after speculation terrorists were planning an attack there.

Extra security checks implemented for the game with Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night will be repeated for the visit of Liverpool on Saturday.

It follows newspaper speculation that 10 people held in police raids on Monday all had tickets for Saturday's game between United and Liverpool.

The club said Greater Manchester Police had said both games should go ahead.

But it said an increased number of searches would be carried out and warned supporters to get to the ground as early as possible to minimise delays.
