Then why not try a challenging new national trail through the hills and vales of Mid-Wales.
Glyndwr's Way is a 132-mile route celebrating the history of 15th century Welsh freedom fighter, Owain Glyndwr, who set up a Welsh parliament in Machynlleth. The trail runs from Knighton via Machynlleth to Welshpool near the Shropshire borders.
Ideal for backpackers or B&B walkers, a guidebook to the route is due to be published this year. The route is also highlighted on new OS maps and 16 free leaflets describing the route can also be obtained from Powys tourist information. Contact the national trail officer on 01654 703376 or tourist info on 01654 702401 for details.
