CAN you have too much of a good thing? Not in this town. FPAC have returned with a no-holds barred musical extravaganza that oozes quality, vitality and wit. Director Jean Horrocks gives Cole Porter's classic new life, with excellent orchestration by Craig Smith and stunning choreography by Jill Lee-White.

From the splendid opening chorus number Another Op'nin' Another Show, delivered with customary brilliance by Sharron Knott, the pace never slackens, and the whole evening goes by far too quickly.

As for the two leads, Steve Benson as Fred Graham and Clare Unsworth as Lilli Vanessi, one simply runs out of superlatives. Benson is a classic leading man, radiating energy and style, and Unsworth displays pyrotechnic vocal skill. Their scenes together are fierce, spirited and hilarious.

Adrienne Wormald (Lois Lane) and Colin Titley (Bill Calhoun) are immaculate, and Cyril Armstrong and Peter Haslam as the gangsters are magnificent, keeping the audience in stitches.

There is brilliant support from Don Howcroft, David Watson, James Eccleshare, Eric Cheetham and Robert Cornwell.

Every gag is a winner. Every song is a showstopper. And everyone who misses this will kick themselves.
