THIS was the scene in 1941 when women from Greenroyd Avenue organised a party and games to raise money for arms during War Weapons Week.
Mr Geoff Kilburn of Lea Gate, Harwood, who lived in Greenroyd Avenue at the time, was there that day on the Top o'th' Brow playing fields. He is the lad of about 11 sitting with a cup of tea in line with the trunk of the bushy tree on the left of the picture. He has fond memories of growing up in Greenroyd Avenue. "It was a cracking street," he says.
