I AM writing about the changes at the Jubilee Centre, Darley Street. Reading about the anger at the proposed plans of Social Services in the Bolton Evening News, one cannot help but feel concern.
Groups Together are an amalgamation of most of the groups who use the Jubilee Centre both in the day and in the evenings, joining together for support and social activities. As acting chairman of Groups Together, I have seen the deterioration of the day service over the past couple of years affecting people's quality of life.
The popular Thursday evening socials were stopped, Social Services no longer supporting them. Groups Together put on two or three big Thursday evening socials a year, but everyone cannot attend because Social Services have withdrawn personal care.
Members have been under a lot of stress seeing activities stopped on a regular basis. Evenings also have seen changes, but volunteers run the activities in the evening keeping everything going while complying with Social Services' regulations. To close the games room would affect groups in both the days and the evenings -- they would lose a facility much needed.
I ask the people who made this decision to reconsider and also look at why so many other activities have been stopped. This can't be right.
