AFTER reading recent reports in the Bolton Evening News regarding the proposed changes at the Jubilee Centre, Darley Street, concern has mounted among those who use the centre and access the evening activities.

Plans to convert the games room into offices will affect a number of groups, including Senior PHAB and the centre's table tennis teams. Bolton Senior Gateway and its 190-strong membership use the games room on a regular basis, and their social evenings are always full to capacity.

Closing the games room would not only deny all members the use of its facilities, it would pose a serious health and safety risk. Fire regulations concerning capacity would require Gateway to trim its membership by at least 20 people. This is an impossible and unacceptable situation.

Gateway invites a councillor and social services officer to choose 20 members who suffer learning and/or physical disabilities, and explain to them and their carers why they are going to be excluded from their club. The games room is an essential part of Gateway. Please reconsider and keep it open.
