PRIMARY school children across Bolton are being encouraged to paint a picture of what sport means to them.

Their ideas will then be used to help design a sculpture to be built outside Bolton Arena in celebration of the spirit of sport in Bolton.

As part of the public consultation, Bolton Council, which is running the Spirit of Sport project, wants pupils to capture what sport in Bolton means to them through a drawing or painting. And the winner could win their class a day out at the Bolton Arena.

Entry forms have been sent out to primary schools in the borough and the competition is open to all Year 3, 4 and 5 students.

All entries will be put on display at a special exhibition between June 12 and 13 during the Greater Manchester Youth Games.

Cllr Laurie Williamson, Bolton Council's Executive Member for Culture, said: "We want everyone to take part in the creation of an exciting piece of public art.

"Although designed by an artist, it will be inspired by thoughts and ideas put forward by the public so I would urge all schoolchildren to join in the fun through this competition so that when the art is unveiled they can say - we helped do that."

Entries, no larger than A3 size, should be sent to Spirit of Sport, Anne Woolley, The Wellsprings Civic Centre, Bolton, BL1 1US by May 28.
