A MOTHER and her three young children has a lucky escape after a kitchen fire at their Great Lever home.
Firefighters were called to Calvert Road at 8.30pm after a pile of clothes left on top of the cooker caught fire. The family were alerted to the fire when the smoke alarm went off.
A fire spokesman said: "They did exactly the right thing, got out, called us out and stayed out."
The cooker and the clothes were destroyed, but the fire was prevented from spreading to the rest of the kitchen.
