BOLTON Wanderers' assistant boss Phil Brown has presented a series of awards to young adults who took part in a fire service scheme.

Eleven people aged between 16 to 25 completed Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service's Prince's Trust course, and they were honoured at a glittering presentation evening at Bolton Wanderers' Reebok Stadium.

Deputy Fire Officer Tony Proctor was also on hand to present the awards.

During the course, the Wanderers assistant manager put the team through their paces when they experienced a day in the life of a footballer.

The volunteers were also taught a wide range of valuable skills ranging from numeracy and literacy, right through to fundraising and first aid.

They also raised more than £500 by packing shopping bags at Asda and Morrisons in Bolton, in aid of elderly and disabled people.

Princes Trust Team Leader Diane Eckersley said: "The Fire Service has been working in partnership with the Princes Trust for two years, and in that time we have helped more than 200 people get their lives working.

"We've helped by giving them the confidence to unlock their potential and build skills which can be used to progress their lives in a positive way."
