PARENTS in the North West are reluctant to save for their children's future according to new research.

The Government's proposed Child Trust Funds are due to be introduced next year in a bid to encourage parents to save, but new research suggests Gordon Brown could struggle to make them attractive to North West parents, because only 16 per cent would put their own money into them.

Only half of the people questioned in the North West for Royal Liver Assurance's annual UK Financial Awareness Report, were aware of the new trust funds. Nearly three quarters of these people will not be topping up the £250 or £500 government starter cash that will be put in the funds for all children born after September 1, 2002, and a further 11 per cent are undecided if they will contribute or not.
