AS auctions go, this is the Big One - pieces of Blackpool Pleasure Beach's many rides are going under the hammer.

Thrill-seekers are being invited to grab a slice of the action as one-off items from Britain's most popular theme park go up for auction.

Among them will be Nordic heads from Valhalla boats, a piece of Pepsi Max Big One track, Irn Bru Revolution car bodies, a vintage car, Eclipse and Hot Ice memorabilia, old Mr Funshine signs, a log flume boat, dodgem cars, ride signs, ride wheels and height boards.

Also under the hammer is Richard Rodriguez's famous Big Dipper seat which he sat in for 2,000 hours in 2000 to make the Guinness World Record.

Bosses at the Pleasure Beach hope it will raise funds for children around the world.

The memorabilia auction will be held in the Horseshoe, Blackpool Pleasure Beach, on Sunday, May 16, from noon in support of children's charity UNICEF, one of Pleasure Beach, Blackpool's nominated charities.

Managing director Geoffrey Thompson said: "This is a great opportunity for theme park enthusiasts, collectors and all our visitors to own a piece of Pleasure Beach history."
