GARDENER Angela Mojsejew can cultivate her green fingers after winning £100 of vouchers from Barton Grange Garden Centre.

Ms Mojsejew entered a competition run by Greater Manchester Police, in conjunction with the Bolton Evening News, to promote their secure garden display at Barton Grange.

The competition was held as part of a Crime prevention project in which officers demonstrated how easy it is to create a secure garden. A model garden showcasing crime prevention techniques will be on display at the centre, in Deane, until the summer.

Police say garden crime increases with good weather. PC Steve Openshaw, Bolton Police's crime reduction advisor, said figures from the recent British Crime Survey reveal more than 5,000 gardens are raided each week.

PC Openshaw added: "Tools, equipment, flowers and ornaments are common items taken by opportunist burglars. We hope the display will give us the opportunity to demonstrate how security is achievable in a modern urban garden without compromising its appeal."
