I RECEIVED a Conservative leaflet for the Heaton and Lostock Ward, which takes the Labour Council to task for council tax increases, inefficiencies in the Town Hall and exotic council job vacancies.
Am I missing something here?
After Labour lost overall control of the council last May, the Conservatives put them back in control and accepted the scrutiny committee posts, so they must take some of the responsibility for what has happened since.
The Tories can't have it both ways by putting Labour back in control and then criticising them.
I agree with one point that everyone should vote in the June 10 election when all council seats are "up for grabs", and hope the electorate will remember last May's carve-up.
The Tory leaflet also says the Lib-Dems would increase taxes, including local income tax.
For many years the Lib-Dems have been in favour of the local income tax which would not increase taxes as it would replace the present council tax, and would be based on people's ability to pay. The tax would be collected by using the existing income tax system, and believe that over £300m could be saved on bureaucracy.
