A BUS company is conducting an investigation over claims five separate buses in just one day did not wait for a disabled man to get on board.

Wheelchair bound Gary Howarth said a total of five First Buses did not wait for him to get on the bus at two separate locations around Bolton.

Mr Howarth, aged 53, claims his day of travel frustration began on Tuesday at 11am when he as waiting for a bus outside the HSBC in Bolton town centre to take him to the Chorley Old Road area so he could visit his girlfriend.

He said: "I was trying to get on a bus yesterday outside the HSBC bank. People where in the queue in front of me and because I take a bit more room than them because of my wheelchair I normally let them get on before me.

"As I was waiting for the driver to lower the step so I could get on, he tutted and then drove off."

Mr Howarth said another bus rolled up shortly afterwards - and the same thing happened again.

Later the same day as Mr Howarth was waiting outside the Royal Bank of Scotland bus stop on Chorley Old Road after spending the afternoon with his girlfriend three more buses did exactly the same thing.

Eventually another First Bus came along and took Mr Howarth, of Mill View Nursing Home, Bridgeman Street, Bolton, where he wanted to go.

A First Bus spokesman said an immediate investigation was launched as soon as Mr Howarth made his complaints.

A service delivery manager is to visit Mr Howarth to talk to him about the complaints to find out exactly what happened.

The spokesman said this type of incident was "unacceptable" and not the way First Bus treats its customers.
