A STRUGGLING football club has been handed a cash boost by Premier League giants Manchester United.

Daisy Hill FC, Westhoughton, was given £250 from The Reds' Charity Shield funds which are handed out each year to grass-roots sports teams.

Representatives of the tiny Northwest Counties League division two side applied for a slice of the cash pot generated by the pre-season fixture each season.

Club chairman Bob Naylor said: "It was a bit of a surprise but it's great news for the club."
