THE Royal Exchange Theatre is presenting the premiere of Linda Brogan's play Basil and Beattie.

The production is described as: "Funny, savage and tender - a play about where you belong, who you belong to and who belongs to you."

Basil came from Jamaica and Beattie from Ireland. They have lived in Moss Side, Manchester for 40 years, but Basil is haunted by the ghosts of his homeland.

Sarah Frankcom, who directs the play, says: "They can't live apart, yet they are destructive when they are together. This play is a love story celebrating ordinary yet extraordinary lives."

Basil and Beattie, which is a co-production with North West Playwrights, will be staged in the Studio at the Exchange from April 22 to May 8.
