WIGAN-based retailer JJB Sports said it expected tough competition in the clothing market to continue after a disappointing start to the year.

The group, which has 448 stores across the country, said weaker demand for items such as T-shirts, shorts and replica football kits led turnover to fall in the first 10 weeks of the financial year.

The company recorded a fall in pre-tax profits to £67.8 million in the 52 weeks to January 25, from £77.3 million last year.
