Shrewsbury Town 3 Leigh RMI 1: SHREWSBURY manager Jimmy Quinn believes Leigh RMI will stay in the Nationwide Conference.
Quinn was impressed with the performance of Phil Starbuck's side, who came within 20 minutes of claiming a point at Gay Meadow in front of the Sky cameras.
"With that level of commitment and enterprise to the end of the season, Leigh RMI will not be relegated," Quinn said.
Without Ian Martin, Carl Rezai and Steve Redmond, RMI held their own against star-studded Shrewsbury for 70 minutes before being edged out by Ryan Lowe's 25-yard curler.
Shrewsbury had gone ahead on 11 minutes, Lowe threading a neat ball through for Duane Darby to squeeze a shot under on-loan goalkeeper James Salisbury.
Leigh deservedly equalised on the half-hour when Martin O'Connor's up and under dropped kindly for Steve Brodie to smash home his third goal in two games on the half-volley.
With stunning individual performances from Steve Gunby, Neil Durkin and, in particular, Gerry Harrison, RMI were good value for a draw. Lowe's curler from the edge of the box restored Shrewsbury's advantage, but RMI still had hope.
In the final minute of injury time, Phil Starbuck threw Salisbury forward for a free kick.
The keeper was slow to retreat as his opposite number, Scott Howie, cleared, and substitute Jody Banim trickled the ball into the empty net from 45 yards via a deflection off Durkin.
