BLACKROD Town made the short journey to face local rivals Charnock Richard in the West Lancs Premier Division and came away with a draw after a controversial penalty decision.
Honours were even at half-time, but Blackrod took the lead in the 65th minute when Sam Cardwell pounced on to a poor back pass and dribbled the ball into the goal, past a bemused defender and a helpless keeper.
With 15 minutes left a broken leg suffered by a Charnock player held up play for 10 minutes, but when the game restarted Charnock equalised from a penalty, awarded for handball against a bewildered Kris Arkwright, who knew nothing about it.
Blackrod Reserves put in a great performance to hold leaders Fulwood Amateurs to a 1-1 draw. Andy Morris scored the goal and there were exceptional performances from youngsters Jack Froggarty and Chris Farnworth.
