SCHOOLBOY Lewis Morrison is kicking his way to the top of the martial arts league after winning another major tournament.

Lewis, aged 12, of Halliwell, beat some of the best kick boxers in the world at the Irish Open International Kickboxing Tournament in Dublin recently to win the under 4ft 8in brown and black belt section.

He was cheered on to victory by his dad, Jason, who runs the Excel Centre-based Morrisons Black Belt School Academy, mum Sharon and sister Leasha, who are also keen kick boxers.

It is the latest in a long list of competitions Lewis, a pupil at Smithills School, has won since he followed his dad into the sport at the age of three.

His collection of trophies stands at 43 and is growing.

Later this year he will defend his under 35kg world championship title in Corfu and the family is hoping to head for America in July so he can compete in the US open championships in Florida.

"He is over the moon at winning the Irish open," said Jason.

"It is a tournament everyone flocks to."
