IT saddens me to read about the plight of Westhoughton Cricket Club on my regular visits because the site is ideal and more picturesque than most grounds in the league.
The only need is for an up-to-date clubhouse which I am sure is sadly lacking, as members will agree. So what needs doing?
As there are joiners, electricians, brickies etc on the player staff, what about bringing a pioneering spirit to the club to build? But that takes money to give the pioneers a start and to buy materials. If I remember correctly, interest free loans would be a saviour, so why not contact people like millionaire Francis Lee who came up through the club's 3rd, 2nd and first team? They wouldn't be giving ... just lending it!
The council is looking for sites to teach trades in the area. Here is one they could use at the Tyldesley's.
I hope to see advancements in Westhoughton Cricket Club's fortunes in the coming years! Think about it!
