THE Urbis museum in Manchester enjoyed a record high in visitor figures last month.

Since the decision was made to drop admission charges in December last year, visitors to the city centre glass-clad attraction have increased dramatically.

There was a rise of more than 300 per cent in January, and February turned out to be just as successful with a further 200 per cent increase.

While visitors continue to flow through Urbis' doors and enjoy the free exhibitions, the attraction's bosses say the Peter Saville Show is a major success. On Tuesday, March 16, and Tuesday, March 30, Urbis will remain open to visitors of the Peter Saville Show until 9pm.

Tony Doherty, Urbis General Manager comments: "Urbis is fulfilling its promise. The last two months have been incredibly busy here and the public's response to Urbis has been wholeheartedly positive.

"We have no illusions that there is still a long way to go, but as the world's only cultural institution exploring the city, Urbis has a huge repertoire to draw on, and we will keep endeavouring to excite and enrich our visitors with the exhibitions that we bring to Manchester."
