THE biggest indoor ski slope in Britain looks set to be built next to the Trafford Centre.

A £28 million alpine ski complex over 250,000 sq ft is earmarked for the area, just 20 minutes drive from Bolton town centre. The main slope would be 180 metres long with a drop of 40 metres. The piste would be 40 metres wide at the top and 100 metres wide at the bottom. It would be built by Peel Holdings, the group which owns the Trafford Centre. Inside would be two smaller nursery slopes and a wall of ice for climbers. Shops and restaurants would complete the building, set to overtake Milton Keynes as the biggest indoor alpine ski complex in Britain.

Peter Moore, chairman of the complex's management team, said: "The emphasis will be on fun." Manchester will also gain an office block 460ft high - the city's tallest and set to leave the CIS Building in its wake.
